Overview
K-Chief 500 is Kongsberg's integrated marine automation system for machinery control, alarm and monitoring and power management. It is no longer sold and is in the later part of its lifecycle. In April 2025 Kongsberg discontinued support for a number of the PC and panel computers used as K-Chief 500 remote operator stations, recommending a retrofit to K-Chief 600, and in September 2025 it declared the C1 Combi and C3-GDCP power-management modules obsolete. Operator stations, distributed I/O, process-segment controllers and power modules on these systems are the parts most often needed when a vessel is between upgrades. Keeping Kongsberg K-Chief 500 in service
When a module fails on an older system, there are two routes. A like-for-like replacement keeps the vessel in service; an upgrade can then be planned for a later docking.

An exact replacement keeps the installed system, its software and its class approval unchanged. Plan the manufacturer’s upgrade
Kongsberg names K-Chief 600 as the route forward. Kongsberg's April 2025 notice recommends a total retrofit of K-Chief 500 to K-Chief 600 for the remote operator stations; its September 2025 notice recommends upgrading K-Chief and PMS to the latest generation.
