About the Kongsberg 8100184

The Kongsberg 8100184 is the PSS Process Segment Starcoupler, a CAN bus module from Kongsberg's distributed alarm and control systems. On a CAN process segment, one short circuit or broken line can disable every unit on that segment; the PSS splits the segment into sections and isolates each of its 8 CAN terminals optically, so a fault on one section does not affect the others. It needs no configuration and is not seen by the alarm system software.

What is the 8100184 used for?

The PSS is typically fitted where a process segment runs through a fire or flood zone, or where the total cable run is longer than one CAN segment allows. It is installed in the CAN process segment between the distributed processing units and the dual Process Segment Controller (dPSC), on Kongsberg installations such as K-Chief 500.
