Overview
Kongsberg's DataChief C20 is an alarm and monitoring system for ships' machinery, introduced in 1998 and delivered until 2008. Kongsberg limited support for the system in 2024 and has stated that some replacement hardware is no longer available. On 30 September 2025 it declared the C1 Combi (8100181) and C3-GDCP (8100225) power-management DPUs used in DataChief C20 and K-Chief 500 PMS obsolete, recommending an upgrade to the latest K-Chief and PMS generation. Many vessels still run DataChief C20, so distributed I/O, watch units and PMS modules remain in demand when a unit fails before an upgrade is planned. Keeping Kongsberg DataChief C20 in service

Plan the manufacturer’s upgrade
Kongsberg names Latest-generation K-Chief and PMS as the route forward. Kongsberg's recommended solution in its September 2025 notice is an upgrade of K-Chief and PMS to the latest generation.
