About the Kongsberg 8100225

The Kongsberg 8100225 is the C3-GDCP distributed processing unit (DPU) from the K-Chief 500 and DataChief C20 power management systems. It protects the ship's generators: it trips the generator circuit breaker on over-current, reverse power, overload, over- or under-voltage and over- or under-frequency, and can also provide differential current protection, comparing the current measured at the switchboard with the current inside the generator and tripping when the difference exceeds a preset limit. Kongsberg introduced the module in 2005 and declared it obsolete on 30 September 2025, stating that components for producing new units are no longer available.

What is the 8100225 used for?

The module sits in the main switchboard cubicle as part of the PMS, one per generator. It works alongside the C4 generator control DPUs and the VCC voltage converter module, and reports trips and generator values to the Midi Operator Station or the K-Chief 500 remote operator stations. Without a working unit, the generator loses these protection functions, so ships still running K-Chief 500 or DataChief C20 PMS need an exact replacement until the system is upgraded.

Kongsberg's September 2025 notice names two PMS modules: 8100225 (C3-GDCP) and 8100181 (C1 Combi). Check the item number on the module label; the C3 generator protection family also appears as C3-GP in Kongsberg documentation. Send the label photo, the vessel name or IMO number, and whether the unit is used with differential current transducers.
