About the Siemens 6GK1500-0FC10

The Siemens 6GK1500-0FC10 is the PROFIBUS FC RS 485 Plug 180: a PROFIBUS bus connector whose cable leaves straight out of the 9-pin sub-D port rather than at a right angle. It takes the incoming and outgoing 2-core PROFIBUS FastConnect installation cable on insulation-displacement terminals and has no programming (PG) socket. A slide switch brings in the integrated terminating resistor; when it is switched on, the outgoing bus is isolated. Siemens rates it for 9.6 kbit/s to 12 Mbit/s, IP20 and -40 to +70 °C in operation, and gives its size as 16 x 62 x 34.5 mm (W x H x D).

What is the 6GK1500-0FC10 used for?

Siemens lists it for industrial PCs, SIMATIC operator panels (OP) and optical link modules (OLM): devices where a right-angle plug would foul a cover, a neighbouring module or the cable route. Like any PROFIBUS connector, the first and last one on a segment have the terminating resistor switched on.
