Overview
The S7-400 is Siemens's modular PLC for larger machines, lines and process plants. Its CPUs sit in the S7-400 rack and take their power from the rack's system power supply; they differ mainly in work memory (from 1 MB to 30 MB in this catalogue) and interfaces: a combined MPI/PROFIBUS DP port on every CPU, then PROFIBUS DP, PROFINET or slots for plug-in interface modules. The F-CPUs run safety programs alongside the standard program, and the H-CPUs are built for S7-400H redundant and S7-400F/FH systems, linked to a partner CPU through fibre-optic synchronisation modules.
