About the Siemens 6ES7361-3CA01-0AA0

The Siemens 6ES7361-3CA01-0AA0 is the IM 361, the expansion-rack half of the S7-300 multi-rack link: each expansion rack has one, connected to the IM 360 in the central rack. Unlike the IM 360, which draws its power from the backplane bus, the IM 361 has its own 24 V DC supply (up to 500 mA), and at 80 mm it is twice the IM 360's 40 mm width. Siemens's data sheet marks it as a spare part.

What is the 6ES7361-3CA01-0AA0 used for?

It lets an S7-300 system use modules in up to three expansion racks: each expansion rack has an IM 361 linked to the IM 360 in the central rack.
