Siemens SIMATIC S7-300: the modular PLC of CPUs, I/O modules and power supplies on a DIN-rail backplane, discontinued by Siemens in October 2025 and now supplied only as spare parts.
Overview
The S7-300 is a widely installed Siemens PLC, and Siemens has now discontinued it. Its product note 109809890 set the phase-out announcement (PM400) for 1 October 2023 and the discontinuation (PM410) for 1 October 2025. From PM410 onwards the components are available only as spare parts or through repair, in quantities customary for spare parts, and Siemens reserves the right to supply some only in exchange for the defective unit. Siemens says the final discontinuation (PM490) is not planned before ten years after PM400, but does not guarantee this for every module. For a plant that has to keep running, that leaves two routes: a like-for-like S7-300 module now, or a planned migration to the S7-1500. TIMC quotes new and surplus S7-300 CPUs, I/O and power supplies against the order number on the failed unit.
