About the DEIF PPU-2

The DEIF PPU-2 is a paralleling and protection unit from DEIF's Multi-line 2 generation: a compact controller with all the functions needed to synchronise, control and protect a synchronous or asynchronous generator, on land or at sea. It runs a generator stand-alone, in parallel with other generators or in parallel with the mains, in fixed frequency, fixed power, droop or load-sharing mode, and has a separate display that can sit on the unit or in the switchboard door. Extra protections, governor and AVR outputs, engine interfaces and serial communication are added as options in numbered board slots. DEIF has phased out the PPU-2 and names the PPU 300 as its replacement in the product programme.

What is the PPU-2 used for?

The PPU-2 is installed in the main switchboard, one unit per generator. It synchronises the generator to the busbar, shares load with the other sets and protects the generator against faults such as reverse power and over-current. It suits PLC-controlled systems, with control through binary and analogue I/O or optional Modbus or Profibus.

Before you order

What to photograph or confirm so the right unit is quoted.

Check the order code and the options on the label (for example A1, C1, H2 or M1) and save a full parameter backup with the utility software before the old unit is powered down, as DEIF recommends. If an exact PPU-2 cannot be found, DEIF documents two upgrade routes. To the PPU-3 (application notes 4189341126, for standard software 2.xx.x): options B1 and C1 become standard, most options have PPU-3 equivalents but H1 (CANopen), H4 (CAT CCM) and J3 do not, the NEL and breaker feedback terminals change, governor control moves to four configurable relays on terminals 65 to 72, running modes are set up differently and parameters are re-entered by hand. Modbus addresses differ, but parameter 7514 lets a PPU-3 answer on the PPU-2 register layout. To the PPU 300 (application notes 4189341207), DEIF's named replacement. Neither is a drop-in replacement, so send a label photo and, if possible, the parameter file.
