About the Kongsberg 329785

The Kongsberg 329785 is the SCU (Segment Controller Unit) of Kongsberg's K-Chief 600 automation system. Each local CAN segment of I/O modules is run by a pair of SCUs, one master and one on standby: the master routes the segment's data, handles its alarms with local time stamps and runs the programmable logic, and the standby takes over if it fails. SCUs talk to each other over dual global CAN lines, optionally POWERLINK, and to the operator stations over Fast Ethernet.

What is the 329785 used for?

The SCUs sit in the automation cabinets, one pair per segment of the system. Kongsberg notes that they make hardware replacement easy: software and configuration are downloaded from the SCU to a replacement I/O module on its segment. A failed SCU is replaced with the same part while its partner keeps the segment running.
